Ellis Ivory--Rich Man for Mayor?

Salt Lake Tribune - Opinion: "Nevertheless, Ivory can claim with a straight face that he will be an independent mayor because he will not accept any campaign contributions, will not take a salary and will not drive a county car or use a county credit card. Though any candidate is beholden to his party, and Ivory will be no exception, he will, in fact, be free from the influence that comes of campaign contributions."

On the face of it, the idea of a candidate refusing to get paid, and refuse to use county credit cards or cars, is a great one. It's not like Salt Lake County is the richest county in the nation, and the extra money that could be saved could be used for great programs or events (or whatever).

But...once I gave it a little thought, I started to feel uncomfortable about it. It is a wonderful idea, but an impractical one for most of the citizens of the county (or of any county). Most of us can't work for free for a term of office--we have to support families, pay bills, etc. I'm not sure the other two candidates for mayor can afford that--and that doesn't make them greedy. It just makes them normal.

Ivory's pledge, while good-hearted, may have the effect of raising the bar of office to only those who are rich enough--not just rich enough to run, which is an entirely different problem--but rich enough to serve.

Ivory Homes - Personal experiences have proved that they not only are extremely dishonest, their employees have little or no values and no sense of Customer service.

Ivory has screwed us at every chance while building our current home.

This company truly lacks a moral compass.

Our home sucks too and Ivory has not owned up to any of the poor quality and defects! Do NOT buy an Ivory home! The company is dishonest and doesn't deserve to be granted any more business from good people.

Employees should be ashamed to represent such a shady company!

My Ivory home has weak main floor basement floor has cracks and is uneven, Ivory will not fix anythng. Everything in the house is poor quality. They charged high prices amd put in the cheapest parts and labor they could find. They are the biggest crooks, The owner of Ivory is suppose to be a good Mormon. I wonder how he sleeps at night, He probably pays tithing and he thinks God forgives him

We have an Ivory Home on the East side of Lehi, questionable to average workmenship, very poor on getting items corrected during construction and real poor on their warranty work. Lots of "lip service" and very little "service" from the salesman to the employees. The sub contractors are not happy with this firm either from what we are told, too many short cuts making them look like the bad guys when it was Ivory Homes people that made the mess, never again.

I too have purchased a new Ivory Home on the East side of Lehi. Overall the construction is pretty much straight forward meeting all the required codes. The site supervisor and salesman told us they would do somethings on the lot, clearing trees, regrading, etc. this has never happened.

Items that should have been done in the construction stages where pushed to the warranty process. Todate we are still trying to get some of these issues taken care of before our year is up. This seems to be a problem with Ivory Homes as we are now on our third warrenty person with no action. We have been told by other Ivory homeowners this is common for this builder, hope they are wrong.

WOW wish I would have seen these remarks before getting stuck with this house. The sales people are no better than your local 2nd hand car dealers. They'll tell you anything to get the sale. Same goes for their craft people we have had dealings with. I have reported them to the BBB and several other state agencies.

I too have an Ivory Home, that SUCKS!!!!!!! I didn't build the home, however I am now stuck with thousands of dollars of repair work on our roof. Ivory built our home with flat parts on the roof and now 4 years after being built my brick is falling out and I have tons of water damage. Home Owners Insurance will not cover faulty construction. I can't get anyone at Ivory Warrantee Dept to call me back. Ellis your product Sucks!!!! He probably doesn't even live in an Ivory Home.
